A treatment built for the moments nothing else has reached.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy teaches you how to stay present, ride out painful emotions, communicate what you actually need, and rebuild trust in yourself and your relationships. It was originally developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan for borderline personality disorder, and it is now a leading evidence-based treatment for chronic suicidality, self-harm, emotional dysregulation, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and complex trauma.

DBT holds two truths at once: you are doing the best you can right now, and you can also learn skills that change your life.

That balance, acceptance and change, is where the real work happens. Many of our clients arrive having tried other therapies that did not go deep enough, or after stepping down from a higher level of care and needing somewhere that knows how to keep them safe and steady. Comprehensive DBT is built for exactly that work.

Many programs in the area say they offer DBT, but use only parts of the model. The strongest research outcomes come from the full, adherent program, with all four components running every week. That is what we offer here.

Four parts working together, every week.

If you are a parent comparing programs or a clinician deciding where to refer, the question to ask is simple: does the program offer all four components, delivered by clinicians trained in the full model? At Turn the Mind, the answer is yes.

Individual therapy

Weekly one-on-one sessions

Your therapist helps you apply DBT skills to the actual situations in your life. Together you will use behavior chain analysis to map the moments where things fall apart, so you can intervene earlier and choose differently next time.

Skills group

Weekly DBT skills training

Skills groups teach the four core modules: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness, with the Walking the Middle Path module added for adolescents and their families. Groups are taught classes, not talk therapy. You leave with concrete tools to practice.

Phone & text coaching

In-the-moment support

Real life does not wait for your next session. Coaching gives you brief support when it matters most, so you can use a skill before a crisis takes over. The first 15 minutes per call are included for clients in the comprehensive program.

Consultation team

A team behind your therapist

Your therapist is part of a six-clinician team that meets weekly to support each other and keep your care sharp. You get the wisdom of the whole team, not just one therapist working alone.

Authentic DBT, delivered with care.

DBT-LBC certified

The gold standard in the field

Dr. Richardson has been independently evaluated by the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification for adherence to the full DBT model. It is a credential most programs in the area do not hold.

Field-leading expertise

Training that stays current

Dr. Richardson serves on the DBT-LBC board, which means our team works at the leading edge of the model and brings the latest refinements directly into your care.

Weekly consultation

Quality, not just access

We treat consultation as essential, not optional. Every clinician on our team is committed to ongoing training and to learning together so the care you receive keeps improving.

Compassion at the center

Skills matter; the relationship does too

We sit with the pain alongside you and help you feel truly seen while you do hard work. Many clients tell us this is the first place they have felt both held and held accountable.

Care designed for the people who need it most.

Adults (18+)

Navigating chronic emotional pain, BPD, suicidality, self-harm, trauma, anxiety, depression, eating struggles, or relationships that keep ending in the same painful patterns.

Adolescents (13 to 18) and families

Facing self-harm, suicidality, big emotional swings, school refusal, substance use, or family conflict that has stopped responding to other approaches. Our adolescent program includes parents and caregivers throughout, because change happens faster when the whole system learns the skills together.

Referring clinicians

We welcome consultations and warm hand-offs. Our lane is clear: comprehensive DBT for clients who need the full model. We are happy to talk through fit before any referral and to coordinate care with you afterward.

People often arrive exhausted, frustrated by therapies that did not go deep enough, or afraid that their pain is too big to share. We start by slowing down, getting to know you, and building a road map you understand. You will not be alone in this.

Skills training is structured. Individual sessions are warm and human. Coaching is responsive. The team behind your therapist is invested in your progress. Comprehensive DBT typically lasts six months to a year, and most clients tell us they leave with skills they keep using long after treatment ends.
