Virtual therapy · New Jersey

Full DBT therapy in New Jersey. No commute required.

You have done the research. You know that real DBT is not just a weekly therapy session. It is individual therapy, a skills training group, and phone coaching, working together. You have also probably noticed that practices offering the complete program are hard to find.

Turn the Mind offers fully adherent DBT across New Jersey via secure telehealth. The same structured, evidence-based program we provide in person at our Glen Rock, NJ office is available to clients throughout the state, from your home.

A complete program, not just a skills handout.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy was developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan for people who experience emotions intensely, respond quickly, and take longer to return to baseline. It teaches specific, trainable skills in four areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

The research is clear: DBT works best as a complete program. Skills group alone teaches concepts. Individual therapy alone processes experiences. Phone coaching alone supports moments of crisis. Together, they create something the pieces cannot on their own: lasting change in how you respond to your own emotional life.

Many practices offer DBT-informed therapy. That means a therapist trained in some DBT skills, incorporated into general treatment. It can be helpful. But it is not the same as a full DBT program, and it will not produce the same results.

The four components, delivered virtually across NJ.

Each of these components is part of how DBT was designed to work. We provide all four, with the same fidelity online as in person.

One

Individual DBT therapy

Weekly one-on-one sessions with a DBT-trained therapist, using diary cards and chain analysis to understand and shift patterns.

Two

DBT skills training group

A structured group where you learn and practice the four skill modules, with new skills introduced each week.

Three

Phone coaching

Between-session access to your therapist for in-the-moment support when you need to use your skills in real life.

Four

Therapist consultation team

Our clinicians meet regularly as a team to ensure you are receiving consistent, high-quality care.

Built for emotions that hit hard and stay.

DBT was originally developed for borderline personality disorder, and it remains one of the most effective treatments for BPD. It is also highly effective for the patterns listed here.

We work with teens and adults throughout New Jersey.

  • Chronic suicidal ideation or self-harm
  • Intense, rapidly shifting emotions
  • Eating disorders, particularly binge-purge patterns
  • Trauma-related emotion dysregulation
  • Anxiety and depression with emotional intensity
  • Adolescents and teens in emotional crisis

Same structure, from your living room.

Your individual sessions and skills group both take place via secure video. Phone coaching is available by phone or text, as agreed with your therapist. The structure and pacing of the program is identical to in-person treatment.

For clients in northern New Jersey who prefer a hybrid option, our Glen Rock office is available for in-person sessions. Most of our NJ clients choose fully virtual and find it equally effective.

We are in-network with several insurers and are happy to discuss coverage during your consultation call.

One of the few practices in New Jersey offering a fully adherent DBT program.

Our clinicians are specifically trained in DBT, not cross-trained therapists adding DBT skills to a general practice. We run structured skills groups year-round and maintain all four program components the research was built on.

We have been providing DBT in Bergen County and throughout New Jersey since our founding, and have worked with teens and adults across a wide range of presentations.
