DBT Skill - Participate!
To participate is to fully enter into an experience. The Nike “Just do it” of DBT skills. Although we are not just doing it -- we are aware of it and actively being part of it. How often are we going through the motions but not fully in what we are doing? Why bother doing “Participate”? There are so many reasons. First, participating helps build mastery at something you may not feel confident about, whether you are waterskiing or introducing yourself to a new colleague. Secondly, participating takes you outside of your comfort zone and helps you try something new. And finally, because often opportunities to participate involve other people, participating improves your social interactions and can help you expand your social group and the activities you are invited to. Participate makes your world bigger!
